Suitor arraignment for allegedly assaulting lover for refusing marriage proposal

A 28- year-old suitor, Muhammed Nasiru, was hauled before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday, for allegedly beating up his lover and threatening to kill her for refusing his marriage proposal.

The defendant, a trader who resides at Agip area, Agege, Lagos , is being prosecuted by the police on charges of assault, threat to life and causing a breach of peace.

The prosecutor, ASP Clara Olagbayi told the court that the offences were committed on May 15 at Agip area, Agege, Lagos.

The prosecutor said that the defendant beat up his lover, Miss Aminat Adeosun during an argument.

Olagbayi said that the complainant was seriously injured as a result of the beating.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant threatened to kill the woman if she refuses his marry proposal.

Olagbayi said that the swift intervention of neighbour saved the woman from a worse fate that could have befallen her.

The offences, she said, contravèned Sections 56, 168 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. A Odubayo granted the defendant N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Odubayo adjourned the case until July 5 for mention.
