Atare Awin, a Delta State government media aide, has been fired for publicly supporting Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate.

Awin was fired on Tuesday, according to a letter from Anthony Onoriode Ofoni, Commissioner in charge of Delta State's Directorate of Project Monitoring and Audit.

On October 1, the anniversary of the Nigeria's independence, supporters of Obi marched in solidarity, shaking major towns around the country, including Delta State.

Awin has previously worked as Ofoni's Media Technical Aide.

"I like to advise you of your resignation as Special Assistant Technical Aide to my office as the Delta State Commissioner for Project Monitoring/Audit," the letter stated.

"This decision was necessitated by your widely publicized views on the Delta State Government's and the PDP's policies and plans, which are at odds with what the State Government has accomplished in the last seven years."

"As a Commissioner and member of the State Executive Council, I wish to convey my dissatisfaction with the views you espoused on your platforms."
