2023 Elections: INEC sensitises PWDs in Adamawa
INEC is an inclusive commission, which is why it makes provisions for people with disabilities to enable them to cast their votes with ease.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Adamawa will give special consideration to persons living with disabilities (PWLDs) during the 2023 general elections.
Mr. Jibrin El-Yakub, Administrative Secretary of INEC in Adamawa, stated this while sensitizing PLWDs on Wednesday in Yola.
El-Yakub also said that the commission had collected sensitive materials that would be used for the elections, especially as it concerned the PLWDs, and was expecting more.
"We collected the Viber machines, which is part of the sensitive materials, that was why we invited you to demonstrate to you how it will be used during the 2023 General Elections.
"INEC is an inclusive commission; that is why it makes provisions for people with disabilities, to enable them to cast their votes with ease."
According to him, the commission will also get a translator for easy understanding of happenings at the polling units when they go to cast their votes.
"Also, we have made provisions for tactical devices, which will be used by PWDs during elections."
"And on election day, we are going to have separate queues for the PLWDs and the elderly, so that as soon as they come, they will be attended to immediately," El-Yakub added.
In his remarks, Mr. Sani Sabo, Chairman of PLWDs in Adamawa, commended INEC for carrying them along by ensuring that they discharged their constitutional duties without any challenge.
Sabo assured the commission that the PLWDs would further step down the sensitization for members to ensure all of them were well educated to cast their votes.
