Labour unions at the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, have suspended their 14-day warning strike over conditions of service.
Supreme news reports that the unions had on June 20 embarked on strike following directives by the Joint Action Congress (JAC) of Ondo State Tertiary Institutions (ODSTI) over non-payment of some allowances by the state government.
The unions are: Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).
Mr Bobola Bamigbola, JAC Chairman, OAUSTECH’s chapter, confirmed the resumption, saying, “the unions have resumed work and are back to their various posts.
“Out of five agitations, the state government has approved the payment of January 2017 unpaid subvention and five months wage award, out of six months, promising to look into other three remaining agitations,” Bamigbola said.
The unions’ grievances include inadequate funding of institutions and non-payment of the national minimum wage.
Others are non-payment of the wage award arrears and failure to pay the gratuities of retired members, among others.
