Aiyedatiwa promises completion of abandoned projects at OAUSTECH

Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo’ State has promised to complete all the abandoned projects at the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa.

Aiyedatiwa, Visitor to the Institution, gave this assurance while speaking on Wednesday at the 9th convocation ceremony of OAUSTECH.

Supreme news reports that abandoned projects in the institution include Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Ondo’ State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) students hostels, School of Management Sciences building, ICT centre and road projects.

Aiyedatiwa, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Segun Omojuwa, also reaffirmed his commitment to qualitative and infrastructural development of education system in the state.

He pledged to support the university in bridging the gap between town and gown relationships in order to tap into the vast potential of the Blue Economy to ensure the smooth sailing of the state.

“I am proud to announce that we will complete the outstanding abandoned projects by OSOPADEC and NDDC, including the School of Science Building, ICT building, and road projects started by the last administration.

“These projects will further enhance the learning environment and contribute to the overall development of the university.

“Our EASE agenda, which emphasises Education, Security, Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, and Infrastructure Development, is a testament to our commitment to building a better Ondo State,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa, also commended Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, OAUSTECH’s Vice-Chancellor, for putting midas touch on the institution, by increasing the schools in the institution from three facilities to seven and for increasing the students population from 5000 to 12,000.

He also applauded the vice chancellor for making staff welfare his greatest priority, introducing innovative programmes like BSc Cyber Security, BSc Marine Science, BSc Meteorology, higher degrees in Engineering and Engineering Technology which are promoting the cause that made the institution a great citadel of learning.

Aiyedatiwa, however, congratulated the graduands on their remarkable achievement, saying that they carry the knowledge, skills, and values that would enable them to make a meaningful contribution to society.

“I charge you to be ambassadors of our university, to uphold its values, and to strive for excellence in all that you do,” Aiyedatiwa said.

Earlier, Ologunorisa, who reeled out his achievements in the past four years, said that the institution was facing lots of infrastructural challenges, through abandoned projects which littered the institution.

He charged the graduating students to continue their journey of learning and discovery to remain curious and open minded and embrace new challenges with enthusiasm and determination.

“The education you have received here has equip you not only with knowledge and skills but also with values of excellence, integrity and services.

“As you step into the world, remember that the future belongs to those who dare to dream and act on their dreams. Be ambassadors of OAUSTECH, be agents of positive change, and be leaders that our nation and world need,” Ologunorisa said.

Supreme news reports that OAUSTECH graduated no fewer than 1, 452 students for the 2024/2025 session with 50 graduates in First Class category, 594 in Second Class Upper Division, 691 made Second Class Lower Division and 115 graduated in Third Class Division.

Supreme news also reports that Wale Isiah-Agboola from Electrical/Electronics Department emerged the overall Best Graduating Student (Male) with 4.9 CGPA while Dominion Oyindamola-Akinwunmi from Computer Science Department, emerged Best Graduating Student (Female) with 4.89 CGPA.

Supreme news also reports that Mr Oluwaseun Adesina-Olukoya emerged the first produced PhD student of the institution with PhD Mathematics – Complex Analysis.

Highlights of the convocation ceremony was presentation of awards and cash rewards to Best Graduating Students and First Class graduates, as politicians, academicians, traditional rulers, staff, students and other well wishes graced the ceremony.
