Clinical lecturers at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) have issued a 21-day ultimatum to the university management over the non-implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).

The lecturers, under the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), expressed their frustration in a statement received by newsmen in Ibadan on Tuesday.

In the statement, jointly signed by MDCAN Chairman, Dr Oluwatosin Ilori, and General Secretary, Dr Abraham Akinbola, they frowned at the university’s prolonged delay and silence concerning their salary demands.

The clinical lecturers claimed that LAUTECH was the only university in South-West Nigeria that had yet to implement the CONMESS.

This, they said, had remained the situation despite several interventions and a suspended strike action three months ago.

According to them, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rasaq Kalilu, had personally promised to address the issue, but no concrete action followed.

The lecturers alleged that the university’s management had since ignored further correspondence.

They, therefore, urged Gov. Seyi Makinde and other stakeholders to intervene, warning that failure to meet their demands by the end of the month would lead to an indefinite strike.
