The management of Federal Polytechnic (Fedpoly), Ede in Osun, has appealed to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for the urgent fencing of the institution for adequate security against land grabbing.

The Chairman of the Governing Council of the polytechnic, Prof. Taiwo Olaiya, made the appeal during the inspection of landscaping of TETFUND projects in the institution on Monday.

According to Olaiya, the fencing of the school is very paramount for adequate security, to prevent land grabbing and encroachment of the institution’s land.

“Many of the infractions between tertiary institutions in the country and the host community are due to encroachment caused by the delay of institutions to fence their campuses.

“We are already foreseeing signs of encroachment on our land.

“So, the most important project the school needs now is the fencing of the institution’s landed property, and we are ready to collaborate with TETFUND on this,” he said.

Olaiya also said that the visit of TETFUND Southwest representative, Mr Sunday Adepoju, to the polytechnic three weeks ago had started yielding positive results.

He said that the school management and members of the governing council had started complying with the maintenance of TETFUND projects in the polytechnic as a token of appreciation.

The chairman said the polytechnic was committed and dedicated to ensuring all TETFUND projects were well managed and maintained.

Olaiya said the landscaping work was going on steadily and would be completed in about two to three weeks.

“Beautification of the projects is also ongoing simultaneously and will be completed soon,” he said.

In his remarks, the Director of Works in the institution, Alhaji Ndatsu Umar, said that the landscaping project started about three weeks ago.

Umar said the landscaping project had commenced at the Electrical-Electronic, Computer Engineering, and the school of Science Technology departments.
