JAMB seeks stakeholders' assistance on admissions process
Oloyede said that the admission process into the nation’s tertiary institutions could no longer remain the same as it was in the 1980s.
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has called for the support of stakeholders toward the complete automation of the admission process into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Its Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, made the call on Monday in Ibadan at a South-West Zonal Workshop for stakeholders on the adoption of the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) and the Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS).
Oloyede said that the admission process into the nation's tertiary institutions could no longer remain the same as it was in the 1980s.
He said that JAMB had resolved to provide speedy, quality, and efficient service, hence the introduction of the two systems to enhance communication among the board, regulatory bodies, and tertiary institutions.
Oloyede said that CAPS would also provide heads of institutions the opportunity to contribute, through suggestions to JAMB, on evolving trends that would enhance tertiary education.
In his presentation, Mr Damilola Bamiloye, the JAMB's IT Consultant, said that IBASS had become necessary to stop unnecessary trips, letters and phone calls to Abuja to resolve issues, which could be done swiftly by mail.
Bamiloye also warned the principal officers of the institutions against being careless with their access codes to the system.
He said that working on the system by proxy was absolutely discouraged.
According to him, identity theft is common, and their access codes should be protected to prevent infractions that can be detrimental to their institutions.
Bamiloye said that with IBASS, new institutions and their accredited programmes could be uploaded on the JAMB's platform easily without taking time.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, urged the participants, who included vice chancellors, rectors, provosts, registrars, and admission officers from various institutions, to make robust contributions during the workshop.
