Don offer testimonial teachings to Alma mater school

The don consequently taught the science class of his alma mater Chemistry at the end of which he addressed them on what they needed to do to achieve eminence in life.

Prof. Abdullahi Baba-Alafara, a former Head of the Department of Industrial Chemistry, University of Ilorin, has introduced testimonial teaching at his alma mater, Mount Carmel College, Ilorin.

Speaking on the sidelines of his visit to the school on Wednesday, Baba-Alafara said he was a product of the school in 1987.

He explained that the visit was to assess the ongoing development at the school.

The expert in Industrial Chemistry decried the state of situation in the school, saying he is not impressed with the poor quality of facilities at the 60 years old school.

While inspecting the school compound, he however commended the Kwara Government for the ongoing renovation of six classrooms and the Federal Government for building and furnishing a block of three classrooms at the institution.

Speaking on the development, Dr Rasaq Adisa, a Lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin, observed that the action of Baba-Alafara will be a boost and motivation to the students

He described the actions of the don as a worthy and patriotic decision, which deserves the emulation of his colleagues and other well placed members of the society.

He added that it would encourage hard work as it would encourage the youngsters "to know that hardwork pays and that they too can get to the pinnacle of their chosen profession", if they work hard.

On his part, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Unilorin, Dr Abdulateef Bako, who is also an alumnus of the college, commended Baba-Alafara for showing others the right thing to do.

Dr Taofiq Lawal of the Department of Physics also saluted the initiative of their colleague, urging others to emulate the gesture to impact positively on the society, particularly at the grassroots.

The Principal of the School, Mr Raphael Adebayo, commended Baba-Alafara for his thoughtfulness and patriotism as he encouraged other alumni of the school to emulate the don for the benefit of the nation's public school system.

Adebayo solicited for material support from its old students to ensure that the school produces more outstanding citizens.

He noted that such visit and moral support were important and needed to encourage staff and students towards excellence.
