NSCDC advocates synergy in promoting aviation security

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC ), Lagos State Command has urged stronger cooperation among airport stakeholders to tackle aviation security threats.

This is contained in a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) SC Oluwaseun Abolurin on Wednesday in Lagos.

According to him, the aim of the synergy is to address the recurring security challenges frequently observed in the aviation sector.

“NSCDC advocated synergy coordination, collaboration and cooperation between the airport authorities, security agencies, relevant agencies and passengers as one of the prospective and proactive methods required to solving the needless security conundrums.

“The conundrums often identified with the aviation industry such as; assault, battery, cyber attacks, congestion, robbery, bullying, hijacking, terrorism and many others, ” the PRO said.

He said that the airport unit of the command, on Tuesday held its second joint training programme, with the theme; “Enhancing Synergy Amongst Aviation Authorities and Security Agencies in Nigeria’s Airports: The role of NSCDC, Airport Authorities and Security Agencies,” at Ikeja.

The image maker said that the dialogue had three lecture sessions undertaken by carefully selected professionals in clear sub-themes.

“The first lecture was: Audits, Training and Compliance: Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority’s Role in Promoting Joint Security Readiness facilitated by Mr Amasia Peter, General Manager of Aviation Security.

“The second lecture was: ‘Security Alertness at Airport Facilities for Safer Travels’, facilitated by Mr Anthony Idokogi, Chief of Office Security, Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

“And the last was: ‘Protection of Lagos airport as a critical national asset of the nation through Inter-agency collaboration’, ” he said.

Abolurin said the training, which aimed to proffer possible lasting solutions that could enhance the peace and security of our airports, drew participants from various security and service agencies.

The spokesperson said that the state Commandant, Mr Keshinro Adedotun vowed to keep enhancing Lagos Airport safety through strong inter-agency collaboration and coordination.

“Adedotun affirms that the command will not stop at ensuring that efforts are made to enhance the safety of the airports especially, through unflinching commitment to inter- agency collaboration and professional coordination,” he said.
