A former President of the Senate, Sen. Ken Nnamani, has commended Gov. Caleb Mutfwang’s initiatives aimed at promoting peace in Plateau.

Nnamani, Chairman of the Board of the National Institute for Policy and Strategy Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos, made this remark during a courtesy visit on Monday in Jos.

Supreme news reports that Nnamani was accompanied on the visit by Prof. Ayo Omotayo, the Director General of NIPSS.

The former Senate President, who also praised the governor’s developmental strides across key sectors, urged Plateau residents to support him in achieving success.

“We have heard of some attacks and killings in parts of Plateau, but we are glad you have managed to confront the situation effectively.

“We may not know how you are doing it, but we commend the initiatives you have implemented to address insecurity in the state.

“It is clear that without peace, meaningful development cannot take place.

“So, I urge Plateau residents to support the governor in delivering the dividends of democracy to all,” Nnamani stated.

He explained that the visit aimed to strengthen the relationship between NIPSS and the Plateau government.

“We are ready to support the state to progress; we are here to establish a strong partnership,” he added.

In his response, Governor Mutfwang thanked NIPSS for supporting the state with research-based solutions addressing insecurity.

The governor, who particularly appreciated Nnamani’s visit, lamented the persistent security challenges confronting Plateau.

“We have enjoyed a strong relationship with NIPSS.

“Recently, the institute conducted valuable research, and we are implementing its recommendations to tackle our security challenges.

“But Plateau has been under siege for decades; it is not merely a farmer-herder clash.

“We therefore have a duty to present the President with the true situation of things,” Mutfwang said.
