Insecurity: Plateau assembly wants local vigilantes equipped

The Plateau State House of Assembly, presided over by its new Speaker, Nanlong Daniel, has called on the state government to adequately equip the local vigilantes to help tackle the spate of insecurity.
Daniel said this during plenary on Tuesday in Jos, after a call of urgent public importance was raised by Mr Ibrahim Galadima(APC, Wase) on the spate of banditry and kidnappings in Bashar district in Wase Local Government Area.
The speaker said that equipping local vigilantes would enhance surveillance and rapid response to mitigating insecurity across the state.
Daniel, further called on the state government to provide adequate support and compensation to those affected by the spate of insecurities in the communities.
He also called on the relevant security agencies to enhance security presence in the various communities.
Supreme reports that a bill for the establishment of Plateau state Community Early Warning System and a bill seeking the resolution of investment and commercial Disputes of Arbitration passed first reading.
Another bill for the law prohibiting the manufacture, use, transportation and sale of single use plastics in the state sponsored by Mr Maiyaki Bala(APC,Qua’an Pan South), also passed the first reading and was adopted by the speaker.
NAN further reports that the assembly also reshuffled principle members and all standing committees were dissolved by the speaker, who was sworn in on July 2.
The principal officers are Joseph Gokum from Kanke and Central Zone of the state , who replaced Joseph Bukar member representing Shendam as the majority leader.
Mr Owen Dagogot, representing Qua’apan North from the Southern Zone replaced Joseph Gokum as the deputy majority leader.
Isaac Dalyop, member representing Jos South Constituency is the new chief whip, who replaced Ibrahim Galadima of Wase constituency.
Also, Abdul Yanga, representing Mangu North is the new Deputy Chief whip, who took over from Kalamu Idris, member representing Dengi Constituency.
