Nsukka residents rejoice over 2022 first rain

Some residents of Nsukka town in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State have expressed gratitude to God who made it possible for the town to witness first rain in 2022 on Jan. 18.

Some Residents in the area in separate interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nsukka on Tuesday said the rain would reduce the high temperature that had made it difficult for people to sleep well at night.

Mrs Monica Ibe, a civil servant said the rainfall was a great relief as the weather had been hot both in the day and at night.

"This first rain is a great relief; it will help to reduce the hot weather.

"I thank God who has continued to provide good things of life free of charge for His children," she said.

Mr Kenneth Idoko, a non teaching staff member at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) said the rain would help residents to sleep well at night.

He said that the rain that lasted over 45 minutes on Tuesday morning would reduced the high temperature in the area.

"Before the rainfall, sleeping at night was a problem because of heat, even with windows and doors open.

"God is a faithful God who knows the need of his children in spite of their shortcomings.

"The rain that lasted over 45 minutes will cool the environment as well as reduced the dust level," he said.

Mr Joseph Ezema, a famer thanked God for bringing the first rain in Nsukka in 2022 so early, adding that it was an indication that 2022 would be better year for farmers.

"I thank Almighty God who in His infinite mercy provides sunshine and rainfall to his children at the appropriate time.

"I have cleared the bush where I will plant my crops; now first rainfall happened today (Jan. 18).

"If before the end of January the second rain comes, by first week of February I will enter my farm and start planting my crops," he said.

Supreme reports that, Nsukka town witnessed its first rain in 2022, Tuesday (Jan. 18) between 5.35 am and 6.32 am.
