The President of Omu-Aran Development Association (ODA), retired Maj.-Gen Lasisi Abidoye, has called on residents of the area to participate enmass in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration Exercise.

The president, in a statement on Monday in Omu-Aran, said for the community to enjoy dividends of democracy it must show its voting strength.

He said the only way to begin the showing of voting strength, is to first of all, participate in the continuous voters registration exercise and later translate that into voting during elections.

“The era of not coming out to take part in electoral processes should be over and we must take our destiny in our own hands by showing the government the population in Omu-Aran community.

“We can only show that by coming out at a time like this, we shouldn’t wait until a day or two to the end of the exercise before we start showing interest.

“I want to appeal to our people to please come out and register, because of the development of our community.

“On the part of the ODA, we have done what we can to make officials in charge of the exercise comfortable, this was done to ensure we create a conducive environment for our people to participate in the exercise,” Abidoye said.

He therefore advised the residents to visit the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to do the online registration and book a date for the biometric and wait for the card to come out.

The retired military personnel called on members of the community to use this present opportunity of the exercise to transfer their voting centre to Omu-Aran in order to exercise their voting rights, so that the voting strength would be enchanced.

He challenged elites of the community to help educate the people on the importance of taking part in the exercise.
