Suleiman Ajeigbe, the Head Coach of Offa Volleyball Club, says his team’s target was to win the 2021 Nigeria Volleyball League trophy.
Ajeigbe stated this to sports journalists at the University of Ilorin Indoor Sports Hall on Monday after his team’s surprise 3-2 win over the Nigeria Immigration Service, one of Nigeria’s Volleyball powerhouse.
The team won 23-25; 25-20; 18-25; 25-17; and 15-13 in the men’s match 18 of the ongoing league.
Ajeigbe, who dedicated the victory to Gov. AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, said that the cash incentive to the team motivated the players to fight hard to win.
“I had promised my players cash reward for every match won. We did not expect them to make the result but they did and I commend my boys for not allowing that to weigh them down.
“My advise to the players is to keep their head up because we are here to win and not to lose any game anymore” Ajeigbe said.
In another match also played on Monday, defending champions, Nigeria Customs Service overwhelmed the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Spikers 3-0.
The first set ended 25-23 with the Customs improving their performance in the second set to beat the Spikers 25-19.
They put the icing on the cake in the last set with another fine performance and a convincing 25-14 victory, thereby putting the match to bed.
