For Bala Abdulaziz, who sells vegetables such as carrots and garden eggs, opening his business to customers on election day was a strategic business decision.

Vegetable and fruit sellers at Efab Estate in the Lokogoma Area of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) said they opened business on election day to enable voters to get fruits and vegetables to eat and be refreshed as they waited to vote.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Hamza Adamu said he decided to open his fruit stand close to the polling unit so that voters could buy fruits to eat and be energised while they waited to vote.

Speaking in pidgin English, Adamu said some voters came out early so they probably did not have time to cook and since they might not be able to sustain their energy on water alone, the fruits will come in handy.

For Bala Abdulaziz, who sells vegetables such as carrots and garden eggs, opening his business to customers on election day was a strategic business decision.

” I decided to sell today because voters do not know how long they will wait before they vote and that there won’t be many options available to voters with regards to food.

“So when a voter turns and sees carrots and garden eggs and groundnuts, the person will be very happy to buy and even share with other voters,” Abdulaziz said.

On whether they were not worried that voters would not have cash to pay, both sellers said that they had their POS machines and were also accepting transfers.

Supreme reports that at the time of filing the report, there was a large number of voters at the 029 Gate Polling Unit as well as the 030 First Corner Shop Polling units on the estate.

Supreme also reports that as at 9:00 am, no official of the INEC or voting materials had arrived at the polling units.
