The perpetrator in the viral spousal abuse video, identified as Mr. Ekere Ebong, who is presumed to be a lawyer, has been detained and will shortly be prosecuted with gender assault, Supreme News report.


In a press release issued on Monday, Ekerete Udoh, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, confirmed that Pastor Umo Eno, the Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, has viewed the video presently trending on social media platforms, which depicts a heinous act of domestic violence and abuse perpetrated by an individual named Ekere Ebong against his spouse in Uyo, the capital of the state.

He stated that the state's government and citizens condemn this heinous act of gender-based violence with the utmost severity. The government will provide aid to the woman who was subjected to such dehumanisation at the hands of a man who ought to have been her protector, and will ensure that justice is served in accordance with the legislation prohibiting gender-based violence.


"It is gratifying to report that the warrant issued last night for the perpetrator's apprehension has been effectively executed. Mr. Ebong, who was apprehended this morning and is presently detained by the police, will be prosecuted in court shortly. He stated, "The government has an absolute zero-tolerance policy towards gender-based violence and all other forms of violence."

As a result, they urge the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to implement disciplinary actions against Mr. Ebong, whose behaviour as an attorney violates the honourable profession's values and ethics.

"We wish to assure the public that, Mr. Ebong’s outrageous and egregious display of violence is totally alien to our culture and he will face the full wrath of the law," according to him.


Mr. Ebong, however, has been a serial spouse abuser for at least the past four years, according to information gleaned from the viral video.

According to reports, he is also a senior lawyer.
