Fubara insisted that he has not committed an offence that would necessitate his removal from office by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State downplayed the possibility of impeachment on Monday.

Fubara insisted that he has not committed an offence that would necessitate his removal from office by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

At the Assembly Complex in Port Harcourt, he addressed his supporters.

The governor assured the citizens of the state that they would reap the benefits of democracy.

"Let them come out and explain to the people of Rivers what offence I've committed to warrant impeachment."

"Allow me to assure the citizens of Rivers that I will continue to guarantee you receive the benefits of democracy. "I will address the media at the appropriate time," he said.

There are rumours that an impeachment proceeding against Fubara is imminent following the removal of Edison Ehie as House leader.

Members fled for safety as tear gas was launched outside the House Complex as a result of the crisis that ensued.
