The House of Representatives has passed, for second reading, the bill seeking to establish the National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Okota, Isolo, and Lagos State.

The purpose of the bill is to provide courses in entrepreneurial, innovative, and development studies for the inhabitants of Okota and Isolo, in Lagos State, and its environs, as well as for Nigerians in general.

The sponsor of the bill, Rep. Ganiyu Johnson (APC-Lagos), said at the plenary in Abuja on Wednesday that the bill, when passed into law, would facilitate the development of skills in entrepreneurship, innovation, and related fields.

He further said the bill would go a long way in tackling the hydra-headed issue of unemployment in Nigeria, as students of the institute would be trained to utilize their hands in creating employment for themselves.

To this end, the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, ruled in favor of the bill without debate and referred it to the relevant committee for further legislative input.
