The meeting strongly urged the four PDP governors from the South-South Zone who attended to do everything in their power to persuade their brother governors, particularly Governor Nyesom Wike, to reconsider their position and join hands with the party to rescue, rebuild, and reunite the country in the interest of the suffering Nigerians.

The Peoples Democratic Party has assigned four South-South governors to beg Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to support the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in next year's presidential election.

Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), and Godwin Obaseki are the governors in charge (Edo).

This was stated in a communique issued at the conclusion of the South-South PDP Governors' Forum meeting, which Governor Udom Emmanuel hosted in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Aside from the four governors from the region, Governor of Sokoto Aminu Tambuwal, who is also the Director-General of the Atiku/Okowa Campaign Council and the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, was present.

Others included Cross River State's immediate past governor, Liyel Imoke; Edo's Lucky Igbinedion; Celestine Omehia; the PDP's immediate past National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus; serving and former members of the National Assembly, and serving and former members of State Assemblies.

Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta State and the PDP's vice presidential candidate, signed the communique, which was made available to journalists in Uyo.

"The meeting strongly urged the four PDP governors from the South-South Zone who attended to do everything in their power to persuade their brother governors, particularly Governor Nyesom Wike, to reconsider their position and join hands with the party to rescue, rebuild, and reunite the country in the interest of the suffering Nigerians."

"The meeting formally congratulated HE Atiku Abubakar on his election as the party's Presidential Candidate and thanked the party leadership for nominating one of the Zone's great sons, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, as the Presidential running mate."

"The meeting emphasized the importance of unity and urged all members of the party within the South-South Zone to make all necessary sacrifices, both individually and collectively, to ensure the party's victory in all of the elections in 2023, particularly to save the country from the precipice and brinks of total collapse caused by the clueless, incompetent, and inept APC administration in the country."

"The meeting reviewed recent events in our party, the PDP, and in the country, particularly the country's dwindling fortunes in the areas of insecurity, economy, unemployment, poverty, inflation, corruption, and currency devaluation," according to the communique.
