The lawyer said, however, that some of the policies at times resulted in the masses suffering due to wrongful implementation by those saddled with their implementation.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Abiodun Owonikoko, stated on Tuesday that most of the policies of governments in Nigeria were not meant to inflict pain on the masses.

Owonikoko said this while delivering a lecture at the 2023 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Chapel in Ibadan.

Supreme News reports that the topic of the lecture was “Government and its Policies: Effects on Masses.”.

The lawyer said, however, that some of the policies at times resulted in the masses suffering due to wrongful implementation by those saddled with their implementation.

He said the wrongful implementation of those policies has led nearly all Nigerians to be “multi-dimensionally poor.”.

“It is not all the time that the government gets its policies right. But the problem is not about making mistakes, but correcting the mistakes at the appropriate time before it escalates.

“What the present government of President Bola Tinubu is doing is not to harm Nigerians.

“Tinubu’s policies are good and he wants to make a difference, but something is wrong with the implementation of some of the policies.

“Tinubu needs to up his game and I believe he is somebody driven by achievements and is not ready to lose.

“He needs our support because he cannot do it alone,” Owonikoko said.

The lawyer urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the country, adding that the future is bright for Nigerian masses.

He further called on Tinubu and other leaders in Nigeria to be proactive in addressing challenges facing the citizens in order to achieve and succeed.

Earlier, the FRCN Chapel Chairman, Mr. Kayode Banjo, said the lecture’s topic was carefully chosen.

”This is in order to call the government’s attention to some policies that are positively and negatively affecting the masses in order for it to make the necessary adjustments,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, the Zonal Director of FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr. Dominic Mokikan, said government policies affected virtually all Nigerians in varying degrees.

Mokikan noted that the basic needs of Nigerians are gradually diminishing due to the economic policies of government which the masses have no control over.

He however expressed his appreciation of the FRCN NUJ Chapel for partnering with him and his management team for the progress of the station.
