Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of the Interior, has inaugurated the eagerly awaited International Passport Automation system.

The automated passport system is scheduled to go live on January 8, 2024, during a review of Nigeria Immigration Service facilities in Abuja, as previously reported by The Nation.

By minimising the amount of human interaction in the passport application process, the programme aims to provide applicants with a secure and convenient experience.

The minister underscored the significance of the novel system in fortifying the security framework of the nation and ensuring the convenience and comfort of Nigerian citizens.

To enhance document verification, he stated that the Nigeria Immigration Service had deployed personnel for document verification in every local government area of the country.
