"The old woman got some dry palm fronds and the little petrol her son kept in a gallon, spread it around the house, and set the house on fire. While confessing, the woman said she set the house on fire because her son and his wife were allegedly starving her of food".

Iforiti Oloro, a 75-year-old grandmother, allegedly lit her son, daughter-in-law, and grandkids on fire in Ondo State.

It was determined that the grandmother, who lives in the same house as her son Victor Oloro and his family, set the house on fire while the family members were asleep.

Although one of the grandchildren survived and is in serious condition at the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Owo, Victor, Rachel, and their other child all died.

Supreme reports that the tragic incident occurred at Aponmu, a suburb of Akure, Ondo’s capital city, last Saturday, March 18.

The incident was confirmed to correspondent by Bayo Adegboyega, a neighborhood resident.

"We saw the building was on fire about 2:00 a.m., when the entire family was at home. "In order to extinguish the fire, I had to enter the building by shattering the windows, together with nearby neighbors," he explained.

"Unfortunately, by the time we arrived, the fire had affected the guy (Victor Oloro), his wife (Racheal), and their two children (Toluwani and Blessing)."

He further mentioned that the patients were sent to a state hospital in Akure, but were turned away due to the severity of their wounds.

"So, we took them to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, but sadly, the infant died upon arrival, while the man and his wife perished on Sunday night. The only surviving child is in critical condition, Mr. Adegboyega remarked.

Mr. Adegboyega, describing the occurrence as "bizarre and disturbing," stated that the residents later learnt that the grandmother had set fire to the building.

"On Monday, we learned that the elderly woman had used some dried palm fronds and the small amount of gasoline her son had in a gallon to set the house on fire. The woman confessed that she set fire to her home because her son and his wife were allegedly starving her.

Tuesday morning, the command's spokesman, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, acknowledged the occurrence and stated that the divisional police officer in the community was still awaiting details.

Her words,

"I am currently expecting the incident facts from the DPO in charge of the region. So, I would request more time to gather the data.

In the meantime, friends have gone to social media to mourn the couple and their child.
