Breaking: PDP retains Delta, Omo-Agege loses

The outcome of Omo-Agege, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and former deputy senate president, was that he lost his bid in the lower courts.

The Supreme Court began sitting on Friday, dismissing an appeal brought by Ovie Omo-Agege against Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who was proclaimed the victor of the state's March 18, 2023, gubernatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The outcome of Omo-Agege, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and former deputy senate president, was that he lost his bid in the lower courts, the Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal, due to a five-member panel of the highest court ruling that his challenge was unfounded.

The panel, which is currently considering Kenneth Gbagi's case from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), upheld INEC's declaration and upheld lower courts' rulings that Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was legitimately elected. The panel stated that the senator and his party were unable to provide evidence supporting their claim that the election was held in a manner that did not substantially comply with the Electoral Act.
