The defendants, whose residential addresses were not provided, were arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, armed robbery and unlawful assembly.

The Lagos State government on Monday brought four unemployed men before an Ikeja Special Offences Court for alleged robbery and belonging to an unlawful society.

The defendants brought before Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe were: Femi Oguntukesi, Kazeem Sheriff, Adelokun Abiodun and Seun Metelewawon.

The defendants, whose residential addresses were not provided, were arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, armed robbery and unlawful assembly.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The state counsel, Mrs Adebanke Ogunode, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offences on March 17, 2022, by robbing a man of his Bajaj motorcycle.

Ogunode alleged that the defendants belonged to the Eiye Confraternity.

The prosecution, thereafter, asked for a trial date, following their not guilty plea.

According to the prosecution, the alleged offences violate Sections 51, 297(2) and 299 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The defence counsel, Mr Gabriel Iyoha, also told the court that he would call the four defendants as witnesses.

The judge remanded the defendants at the correctional centre and adjourned the case until July 10 for commencement of trial.
