The National Population Commission (NPC) and the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on Friday inaugurated an 13-member ad hoc committee on publicity ahead of the upcoming census exercise.

Mr Christopher Maikalangu, Chairman, AMAC, who is also the chairman of the committee, urged the members to work for the success of the exercise at the grassroot level.

Maikalangu said that it was important for the committee to provide support and advice to the commission on issues related to census communication and advocacy.

He urged the committee members to work to ensure that they achieved desired results.

Also speaking, Mr Joseph Shazin, Federal Commissioner, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of NPC said the inauguration of the committee was part of the commission’s effort towards ensuring a successful conduct of the census.

Shazin, who was represented by Mr Suleiman Zakari, FCT State Director of the NPC urged the committee members to deliver on the national assignment bestowed on them.

“The overarching vision of the 2023 census is to produce not only accurate, reliable and acceptable census data but also an inclusive and user-friendly data.

“The data will be used by all segments of the society for development planning and critical programme interventions.

“Therefore as part of this commitment, the FCT office will deploy full digital technology in the conduct of the census and it will leave no resident of the FCT behind,” he said.

He added that the mobilisation of critical stakeholders was imperative to support and take ownership of the process to achieve the desired outcome.
