Thailand plans to start human trials on two COVID-19 vaccines via nasal spray by the end of this year after promising results of experiment in mice.

Anan Jongkaewwattana, director of Veterinary Health Innovation and Management Research Group under the centre reported on Wednesday.

Jongkaewwattana said the adenovirus vector-based and influenza virus vector-based COVID-19 vaccines were developed by Thailand’s National Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

He said after conducting trials in mice, the centre planned to start the first phase of human trials by the end of this year, pending approval from the country’s food and drug administration.

According to him, the trials would also test the vaccines’ protection against the Delta variant.

Jongkaewwattana added that the second phase of human trials is scheduled in March 2022, with a target for volume production in mid-2022 if the trials go well.
