An Upper Area Court, Mpape, Abuja, on Thursday ordered that Bulus Hassan, 18, gets five strokes of the cane for stealing an iron sheet.
The Judge, Marafa Mohammed also sentenced Hassan of Gidan Gora, Garki village, Abuja, to two weeks imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the crime.
Mohammed gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N1,000.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Stanley Nwaforaku told the court that the convict trespassed into the premise of Sen. Binta Garba of No. 20 Abubakar Rimi Crescent, Apo Legislative quaters zone ‘B’, Abuja, and stole an iron sheet around her vegetable garden.
During interrogations,he said, the convict confessed to stealing the sheets on June 9, 2021 worth N40,000.
The prosecution said the offence contravened provisions of sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
