Listed below are some of the ways experts recommend for parents to get involved in their child’s/children’s education.

1. BE PRESENT AT SCHOOL WHEN POSSIBLE:

Making efforts to be present around your child’s/children’s school is a sign that parents really do care about their education and it is important enough to deserve their attention. We are not saying that parents should always sacrifice their free time to be around, NO. Just look for an activity that suits your schedule, look for a way to be involved. it could be by attending meetings, (Parents-Teachers), conferences, open days, Inter House Sports, ETC.

2. SHOW INTEREST IN CHILD’S/ CHILDREN’S SCHOOL WORK:

Showing very keen interest in your kids school work is another very important recommendation made by experts on how to be involved in their education. This according O’Keefe should go beyond asking questions like “How was school today? Do you have new friends now? Do you like your present school? Did you respond to the mathematics questions correctly? ETC. O’ Keefe said ‘’reading together and displaying Child’s/children’s work at home are some of the ways that parents can show that they are interested in what their children are doing in the classroom”. Provide support or find outside help in areas they notice any form of weakness or struggle. Establish a strong bond with them like excitement over success and help them walk through disappointments when it arises. Showing that you care about what they do reinforces its importance.

3. KEEP A POSITIVE ATTITUDE TOWARDS EDUCATION:

Nagging, cracking down, complaining and screaming will not solve the problem of any child/children who dislikes school or refuse to do their homework. But with a positive attitude about education and towards that child/children, a life style of love for learning can be passed unto them. Be around during homework, give unending support to them no matter the outcome. Please do anything to build them up as they walk through any struggle/difficulty because they are still forming their thoughts of feeling towards education. In summary, a major part of the parent responsibility is to be present for the child, to be in the picture.
