The manager said that the association came together to develop a competition where young girls could be nurtured and compete for honours.

The Association of Nigeria Women Football Club Coaches (ANWFCC), on Friday said they were determined to contribute their quota to the development of football in women.

The media manager of ANWFCC, Olajide Royal told the newsmen in Lagos that developing the girl child through football had always been their motive.

Royal said that the association over the last 28 years had been organising grassroots events to give the girl child of U-15 the chance to develop.

He said great players over the years have gone through Ebi Onome, Asisat Oshoala programmes, and many more have risen from nothing to stardom.

The manager said that the association came together to develop a competition where young girls could be nurtured and compete for honours.

He said that through the competition they could be discovered by scouts who would eventually mentor them for a better future.

Royal said that the youths were being guided by qualified coaches who drilled them and impacted great skills into them.

He said that during the three days training, the girls would be taught what to do.

Royal said that no fewer than 18 teams have been competing for this year’s honours.

He said the competition which started with just six teams had grown over the years.

NAN reports that this year’s competition which began on Jan. 8 will end on Jan. 20 at the Legacy Pitch, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
