WAFCON: Tinubu’s gesture to Super Falcons commendable – APC Chieftain
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, Dotun Babayemi, has commended President Bola Tinubu for rewarding the Super Falcon squad for winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Babayemi, one of the APC aspirants for the Aug. 8, 2026 governorship election in the state, made the commendation in a statement on Tuesday in Osogbo.
Supreme news reports that the president on Monday rewarded the Super Falcons with a national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
Each of the 24 players was also rewarded with a three-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Estate and $100,000 cash for winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
“While it was a thing of joy that the young ladies did the country proud by winning the coveted trophy, it is equally heartening they are being appreciated by the president.
“The gesture of the president is prompt and commendable. This is indeed a commendable gesture.
“Such a reward system will definitely spur many young ones out there who are plying the same trade of football and others in different endeavors, to always give their best to make the country proud.
“It will drive a new message of hope and encouragement into the consciousness of Nigerians, especially the youth on the need to be committed.
“We all should be dedicated to the course and ideals that will make the country great and always be at the front row in the comity of nations,” he said.
Babayemi said that Tinubu’s gesture would help to secure the future of the falcons and also assist in raising a new generation of players who would want to give their all for the country in any endeavour they pursued
According to the chieftain, the feat will propel their male counterparts to also go all out to ensure that the nation succeeds at various sports engagements.
He also said that the Super Falcons’ victory would serve as an impetus and the needed verve that would inspire youths at different levels.
Babayemi, however, called on governments at all levels to evolve mechanisms that would help develop sports at the grassroots to guard against generational loss.
