Ralf Rangnick said all his efforts for the next six months would be on helping players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team.

Premier League giants Manchester United have confirmed the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season. Rangnick, 63, will take charge of the first team until June and then remain at the club for at least a further two years in a consultancy role. The German stepped down from his role as manager of sports and development at Russian club Locomotiv Moscow to take charge at old Trafford.

He will take over from Michael Carrick who who was in temporary charge of the team for last week's 2-0 Champions League win over Villarreal and Sunday's 1-1 draw at Chelsea in the Premier League following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The gaffer told United's website following his appointment that he is excited to be joining Manchester United and focused on making it a successful season for the club.

He added the squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience. He said all his efforts for the next six months would be on helping players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team. Beyond that, he look forward to supporting the club's longer-term goals on a consultancy basis.
