BALL Africa launches sports-driven financial literacy programme

Balls Activating Literacy and Leadership (BALL) Africa, a non-profit organisation, on Friday announced the launch of ‘3 POINTS’, a new sports-themed financial literacy programme.
The initiative, aimed at secondary school students, blends sport and education under the theme ‘Financial Literacy Programme.’ It seeks to enhance financial understanding through athletic engagement.
BALL’s proprietor, Femi Adefeso, told newsmen in Lagos that 3 POINTS will be held annually and target 5,000 students.
According to Adefeso, the programme will provide sports scholarships while teaching financial literacy, combining academic content with real-world sports scenarios.
He said BALL is proudly supported by Plumule Advisory, a respected venture capital firm serving as the programme’s technical partner.
Adefeso explained that the 3 POINTS curriculum is designed to capture students’ attention using the universal language of sports.
“Through stories of athletes and real-life sports examples, students will learn budgeting, saving, investing, and how to manage wealth effectively,” he said.
Interactive activities, group work, and local sports personalities will help explain financial planning while promoting teamwork and perseverance.
“Students will also gain skills in strategic thinking, making financial concepts easier to understand and more engaging,” he added.
Adefeso noted that the programme encourages community participation and sparks discussions on financial empowerment beyond the classroom.
He emphasised that educating 5,000 students annually across three terms sets a new standard for youth-focused education.
The initiative, he added, also supports sports talent development and reduces inequalities in access to resources.
“It fosters financial independence among young Nigerians by blending sport and financial knowledge in a fun, practical way.
“We are thrilled to launch 3 POINTS to bridge a major gap in young people’s financial education,” Adefeso added.
He said the programme addresses the reality that many professional athletes lose their earnings within five years of retirement.
“This is due to a lack of basic financial knowledge, despite high earnings during their careers,” Adefeso stated.
He stressed that financial literacy is not just a niche skill but a fundamental life skill for everyone.
“Regardless of your career path, understanding money is essential,” he said.
He praised Plumule Advisory for bringing technical expertise and strategic support to the 3 POINTS initiative.
Gabriel Ologunwa, who leads the Plumule Advisory team, expressed strong support for the partnership.
“At Plumule, we believe in empowering future leaders by equipping them with real-world skills,” Ologunwa said.
He added that the programme’s use of sport as a teaching tool aligns with Plumule’s vision for transformative education.
“We are committed to helping young Nigerians build strong, financially stable futures through this innovative initiative,” he said.
