Despite a powerful start to the second half, Cote d'Ivoire was unable to penetrate the Super Eagles' defence.

The Super Eagles defeated Cote d'Ivoire 1-0 in their Group A match on Thursday, awarded a goal from William Troost-Ekong from the penalty spot.

A glorious opportunity was wasted by Osimhen to give Nigeria an early lead in the match.

After being played through on goal by left-back Zaidu Sanusi, the Napoli forward missed the target from inside the penalty area.

Two subsequent opportunities were wasted by the hosts, via Seko Fofana and Jeremie Boga.

The remaining portion of the half was a shambles, as neither team managed to generate any substantial, clear-cut opportunities.

Despite a powerful start to the second half, Cote d'Ivoire was unable to penetrate the Super Eagles' defence.

A penalty was conceded to the Super Eagles ten minutes into the halftime period due to a tackle by Osimhen inside the penalty area.

Throughout the remainder of the match, Jose Peseiro's team maintained the upper hand.

After two games, the three-time champions are currently in second place in the division with four points.

The following Tuesday, they will face Guinea-Bissau in their final group match.
