Rommy Ezeonwuka said this year’s edition of the games was more significant as Nigeria did not only surpass their previous performances, but finished ahead of other African countries.

Rommy Ezeonwuka, Managing Director, Rojenny Stadium and Games Village, Oba in Anambra has congratulated Team Nigeria to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham for their performance at the games.

Supreme reports that Nigeria won a total of 35 medals including 12 gold, nine silver and 14 bronze to emerge the seventh best team at the competition and best in Africa.

Ezeonwuka said that the athletes did themselves and the nation proud at the games in spite of the challenges facing the sports sector in the country.

He said this year's edition of the games was more significant as Nigeria did not only surpass their previous performances, but finished ahead of other African countries.

"I wish the medalists big congratulation, I know they did all out of their individual efforts and received most of their training from outside the country," he said.

He said his vision of constructing Rojenny Stadium about four decades ago was to provide a platform for Nigerian youths to develop and rise to stardom.

According to him," what I built at Rojenny Games Village is wasting because of the government's inability to put them to use.

"Rojenny is an Olympic Stadium which most states have not been able to replicate, but the problem is that our athletes are not being kept busy by administration," he said.

He called on governments to start utilising the facilities at the stadium to produce more medalists of international repute," he said.
