Benue goes digital, automates land title for faster services

The Benue State Government has rolled out a digital system for the award of land titles and title transfers, in a bid to end bureaucracy and hardship in land administration.
Mr Terna Kawen, Director of Capacity Building and Stakeholders Engagement at the Benue Geographic Information Service (BENGIS). disclosed this on Wednesday in Makurdi.
Kawen said that Gov. Hyacinth Alia, had directed a total compliance with the new online application process.
He said that the initiative was driven by the BENGIS in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Survey and the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC).
According to him, the system introduced a state-of-the-art online application portal, which allows landowners and prospective applicants to process land titles and title transfers from anywhere.
“The portal, powered by BDIC, is accessible at www.bengis.benuestate.gov.ng and is designed to simplify land transactions, improve transparency, and eliminate the rigours of repeated travel to the BENGIS office in Makurdi,” he said.
He said that during a recent stakeholders’ meeting in Government House Makurdi, the governor had expressed concern over the prolonged procedures previously associated with acquiring land titles.
He stressed that the governor further said that the digitisation policy was aimed at easing the burden on citizens and promoting efficient land business across the state.
Kawen noted that the governor has firmly directed that all applications for land titles and title transfers, must now be processed exclusively through the online platform.
According to him, the new system allows applicants to submit requests, track progress, and complete necessary processes online, all from the comfort of their homes.
He urged the public to take advantage of the innovation, which he said represents a significant step towards modern governance and ease of doing business in Benue.
