Rotary sponsors vocational training for 30 grassroots people

The Rotary Club of Ekpan, near Warri in Delta has sponsored a vocational training programme for 30 people, to make them self-reliant.
Addressing the beneficiaries on Wednesday at Ekpan community, the President of the club, Mr Akpodiogaga Emeyese, said that the training was to give the people necessary skills to survive the current economic downturn.
He said that it had become imperative to train indigent people to make them acquire skills to survive the prevailing tough economic climate, caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
According to him, measures have been put in place to make the beneficiaries to use their skills to find their daily bread and feed their families.
Emeyese said that the beneficiaries had also been given starter-packs to stay in touch with and to monitor their progress.
Also speaking, a past District Governor of the club, Mr Ikpomwosa Ogiemudia, described the training as apt, saying that the initiative was one of the seven areas of focus of the rotary club.
Ogiemudia said that he was happy that the club was taking youth empowerment to the grassroots, to make the people to contribute meaningfully to economic development.
He, however, pleaded with the club to invest more in peace-building to make the populace to live in peace with one another.
Ogiemudia also lauded the club for its initiative to eradicate polio in Nigeria and other African countries, describing the training provided by the club as another lofty project by rotary.
Some of the beneficiaries of the training, who spoke with Newsmen said they were happy to have benefited from the training.
A tailor, Mrs Elo Igbologe, said she would combine her new skill with her tailoring business to make the difference for her family.
Another beneficiary, Mr Tabele David, expressed his optimism that the training had opened new opportunities for him.
Supreme reports that the beneficiaries, who received training in various vocations, including soap-making were issued certificates for their participation.
