Revenue: LG boss inaugurates committee

The Andoni Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers, has inaugurated a 10-man committee, to check leakages in revenue remittances, by oil companies operating in the area.

Mr Erastus Awortu, Chairman of the LGA while inaugurating members of the committee on Wednesday in Ngo, a riverine community, urged them to carry out their task with a sense of commitment and accountability.

Awortu raised concerns over the non- compliant attitude of operating companies in the area.

According to him, revenue remittance and cooperate social responsibility, which should practically boost social infrastructure in the area, had rather been mared by irregularities, hence, the need for a robust monitoring committee.

The committee is chaired by Mr Gogomary Oyet, while Mr Tele Etete would serve as the Secretary.

Other members include Mr ThankGod Esuuk, Mr Quizeman Gogo, Mr Shedrack Okereke, Mr Emmanuel Awortu, Mr Ugem Ogbologugo, Mr Emmmanuel Arong, Mr Igana Festus and Mr Awaji Inwon.

The council boss further urged the committee to identify companies culpable of tax evasion and non-adherence to the binding rules on cooperate social responsibility in the area.

He however cautioned them against abuse of office.

In a related development, the Awortu further advised local government workers against laxity, as he played host to the LGA chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).

He noted that the civil workforce was key to good governance.

Mr John Ishmeal, Chairman of the union, applauded the leadership style of the new council boss, describing it as people-oriented.
