The prayers of the governed would pave way for God’s intervention in the nation’s affairs for peace, progress and political stability.

Catholic Bishop of Minna Diocese Martins Uzoukwu has called on Nigerians to assist the government and security agencies in tackling security and other challenges across the country to ensure peace, progress and political stability.

He said in an interview on Wednesday in Minna that the nation needs the prayer and genuine efforts of the governed to end security threats.

"The prayers of the governed would pave way for God's intervention in the nation's affairs for peace, progress and political stability.

"The country is in dire need of prayers for peace, national unity and economic prosperity and for smooth conduct of general elections in 2023.

"Seeking divine intervention will save the country and ensure that Nigeria becomes a better place for all to be.

"Citizens must shun unrighteousness to attract mercy from God; prayer is justice toward God, fasting is justice toward oneself, while alms giving is justice toward others," he said.

Uzoukwu also called on eligible Nigerians to choose competence and capacity in electing leaders in the 2023 general elections.

He urged eligible Nigerians to vote for the best person that is most competent in every position irrespective of political party or religious affiliations.

"Every Nigerian — 18 years old and above, male or female — should go and get their voter cards.

"Nigerians politicians must shun sentiments and promote political tolerance and understanding for emergence of competent leaders in 2023 elections", he said.
