The King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, has given instructions to the ministers of the Interior and Foreign Affairs to resolve the issue of unaccompanied Moroccan minors, who are in an irregular situation in certain European countries.

According to an official statement, the Moroccan King has stressed on several occasions, including to foreign heads of state, the clear and firm commitment of the country to accept such identified unaccompanied minors back home.

“Cooperation mechanisms have been put in place to this effect with certain countries, notably France and Spain, which have led to the return to Morocco of several dozen minors,” said a joint communiqué from the Moroccan Ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs.

The slowness observed in the realisation of this cooperation is mainly linked to complex administrative and judicial procedures in some European countries, the communiqué said.

“Morocco is willing to collaborate, as it has always done, with European countries and the European Union (EU) to settle this issue,” it said.

It asked the EU and the countries concerned to solve procedural constraints to facilitate this operation.
