Sen. Babangida Hussain (APC-Jigawa North-West) has distributed 12 trucks of fertiliser to farmers, farmers’ groups and cooperative societies in his senatorial district.

Speaking at the flag-of of the distribution in Suletankarkar Local Government Area on Tuesday, Hussaini said each of the 12 council areas in his senatorial district was given one truck of the commodity for onward distribution to the targeted beneficiaries.

He said that the gesture was aimed at boosting the farmers’ yield during the farming season.

The senator further stated that it was to boost food production in the area, the state and Nigeria at large and enhance food security.

Hussaini, who described fertiliser as one of the critical components of farming, said that he was working with other relevant federal agencies to ensure the availability, accessibility and affordability of the items to farmers in his senatorial district.

According to him, while each of the 12 council areas was given one truck for onward distribution to farmers at polling units, additional eight trucks for farmers’ groups and cooperative societies.

“At the polling units, we are targeting members of our party, the APC, while the eight trucks were earmarked for farmers’ groups and cooperative societies to enhance their capacities,” the senator said.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of North-West Development Commission (NWDC), Prof. Abdullah Shehu, said the distribution of the fertiliser was in line with the Renewal Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to promote national food security, poverty eradication and job creation.

Shehu assured that the commission would continue to pursue and implement projects and programmes that would enhance the social and economic development of the zone.

Speaking on behalf of the chairmen of the 12 local government councils in the senatorial district, Chairman of Suletankarkar council, Mr Tasiu Adamu, lauded the senator for the gesture.

Adamu, who described the gesture as commendable, assured that the commodity would be judiciously distributed to the targeted beneficiaries.

“We will do our best to ensure that the fertilisers are distributed to the targeted beneficiaries and employ all necessary mechanisms to ensure the right farmers and members of our parties benefitted.

“We also urge the beneficiaries to ensure judicious use of the fertilisers to achieve the desired goals,” he said.
