Kogi new CP assumes duty, promises to deploy appropriate intelligence

The new Commissioner of Police for Kogi Command, Arungwa Nwazue, has assumed duty with a pledge to build and deploy appropriate intelligence that would yield far-reaching results in crime fighting in the state.

Nwazue disclosed this on Monday in Lokoja at the handing over and taking over ceremony between him and the former Police Commissioner, Ede Ayuba, who was recently promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and redeployed.

Nwazue commended the efforts of the former commissioner in ridding the state of various forms of crime and criminalities such as kidnapping, armed robbery and cultism.

The new commissioner said he would focus on intelligence gathering and build on all that had been achieved in crime prevention and detection with a view to bringing criminal activities to the barest minimum.

He said the police would do everything possible to allow dividends of governance and democracy to permeate every fabric of the state without hindrance and ensure that “criminality and crime do not overrun us.”

Commending the efforts and crime fighting strategies of the newly-promoted AIG Ayuba, the commissioner said, “What I have seen now is an example of an officer that knows his terrain.

“The security architecture of this place is functioning. If you look at the performance of our state, Kogi and other neighbouring states, you will see that we are not doing badly,” he said.

Earlier, the former CP, Ede Ayuba (AIG) who is now the AIG in charge of Zone 8, comprising Kogi and Kwara States, thanked the government, people of Kogi and the media for their cooperation which according to him, enabled his success.

“In our coming here, the Headquarters has been giving us support and the government of Kogi State has not relented in giving us every support that we need.

“The governor has been security friendly and there’s no time we call him, no matter the time of the day except in situations where he will be in a meeting and cannot pick his calls, but he will always send messages and respond to us at the slightest opportunity,” he said.

Ayuba urged that same and more support be extended to the new leadership of the police command, adding that his elevation and redeployment to higher office would spur him to do more for the state.
