The Kaduna State Cricket Association has said that it would introduce the game to 30 primary and secondary schools in the state, in its bid to promote the game.
The Association’s Head Coach, Joe Onoja, who disclosed this in an interview on Thursday, in Kaduna, added that the introduction of the game in schools was to improve the standard of the game and promote it at the grassroots.
He said the association had received a donation of playing kits from India and needed to attract more players to the game.
“We are going to introduce cricket to 30 secondary and primary schools in the state because we have been given equipment from India. The introduction of the game to the schools will improve the standard and attract more players to the game in the state.
“We want to improve the standard of the game because we attend a lot of championships at the national level and we do not want to lose in any category”, Onoja said, adding that as the current champions in the game, the association wished to maintain the position.
“Kaduna State is known for the game of cricket in all categories and we need more players in the game to maintain our tempo.
“We have received playing kits donated by the Nigeria Cricket Federation under the leadership of Prof. Ukwenya and we really want to utilize it, by bringing young ones into the game,’’ he said.
Onoja said the association planned to introduce the game annually to different primary and secondary schools, as the discovered talents would be used for future competitions.
“Our association has lined up different competitions including primary and secondary schools competition. We want to be using the talents for all categories of competition at both state and national levels,’’ he added.
