Wanted butcher arraigned for allegedly stealing, causing hurt

A 24-year-old butcher, Abubakar Ibrahim, was on Tuesday docked in a Karu Grade I Area Court, Abuja for allegedly stealing Properties and causing grievous hurt.
The police charged Ibrahim, who lives around chief's palace, Karu Abuja with criminal conspiracy, criminal intimidation, Extortion, House breaking, theft and belonging to gang of thieves.
The Prosecution Counsel, Ade Adeyanju told the court that on April 2022, the defendant popularly known as 'Egede' conspired with other notorious criminals who are now at large and attacked the complainant with dangerous weapons.
Adeyanju said the complainant was rescued and taken to the hospital where he is still receiving treatment.
He said during Police investigation the defendant admitted to belong to a notorious gang terrorising the entire community in karu, Abuja.
Adeyanju said it was also discovered that the defendant had broken seven other shops and extorted victims of their phones and valuables.
He said the defendant has since been on the Police wanted list until he was arrested.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 97(2), 397b, 292, 353, 288 and 306 of the Penal Code.
Ibrahim, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The Judge, Maiwada Inuwa refused the defendant bail and ordered that the defendant remain in prison custody.
He adjourned the case until July 26, for further hearing.
