The Police on Thursday arraigned an 18-year-old, Suleiman Adamu before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, for allegedly stealing two cellphones worth N4.4 million.

The police charged the defendant with joint act and theft.

The prosecuting counsel, Faith Sunday, told the court that the complainant, Amos Ezekiel reported the matter at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Wuse Zone 3 on Dec.29.

Sunday alleged that while the complainant was driving around Amigo Supermarket, Wuse 2, Abuja, the defendant and one other at large distracted him by hitting his car.

She added that in the process, the defendant stole the complainant’s Samsung Galaxy S25 fold and Samsung Z fold 7, all valued N4.4 million on Dec. 26.

The prosecution said that they ran away but were traced by the police and arrested, adding that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79 a d 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The Magistrate, Abubakar Sadiq, granted the defendant N2 million bail with one reliable surety, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide valid means of identification.

Sadiq adjourned the matter until March 5 for hearing.
