Two siblings, Oluwadunsin Aregbesola, 24, female and Oluwatoyin Aregbesola, 19, male, were on Friday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting police officers.

The defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a two-count charge of assault.

The police prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendants and one other now at large, committed the offence on Jan. 10 in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the duo and one other now at large, assaulted one ASP Kareem Ademola and CPl Olawumi Segun, attached to the Safer Highway Operation Unit, Ado-Ekiti.

Adeniyi also alleged that they assaulted and willfully obstructed ASP Ademola and his patrol team while performing their lawful duty.

According to him, the offences contravened the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment, to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Counsel to the defendants, Mr Femi Alonge, urged the court to grant them bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Dolapo Babalogbon, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

Babalogbon said that one surety from the first defendant and one surety from the second defendant must produce evidence of payment of three years tax clearance and landed property.

She adjourned the case till Jan. 17 for hearing.
