Return N500,000 to 2 job seekers, Judge orders convict

Justice M. T. M Aliyu, of the Kaduna High Court on Wednesday ordered a man, Iliyasu Garba, convicted of forgery to return N500,000 to two job seekers.

Garba pleaded guilty to impersonation, forgery and obtaining by false pretense filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), Kaduna.

Justice Aliyu sentenced Garba to 180 days imprisonment.

The judge, however, gave the convict an option to pay N200, 000 fine.

Earlier, the EFCC Counsel, E.K. Garba, said that in Jan. 2021, the defendant defrauded Hassan Zubairu and Maryam Yusuf of N500,000.

He said the defendant made the complainant's to believe that he could get them a job in the Nigeria Customs Service.

The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of Section 307 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
