Defendant docked for allegedly stealing property worth N7.6m

The Police on Friday, charged a 32-year-old woman, Elizabeth Aniemeke, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing property worth N7.6 million.

The defendant whose address was not disclosed, is standing trial on charges bordering on conversion and stealing.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP. Edet Ekpo, told the Court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in Aug. 2025, at Agbalata international market in Badagry.

He alleged that the defendant fraudulently converted to her own use, property worth N7.6 million belonging to one Mrs Aramide Adeshina, a nominal complainant.

The defendant was also alleged to have conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.

The offence contravenes the provisons of section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of two million naira with two sureties in the like sum.

The magistrate ordered that one of the sureties must be a company director.

He adjourned the case until March 18, for mention.
