Court remands man for allegedly raping 15-year-old stepdaughter

A Chief Magistrates ‘ Court in Ikeja, Lagos State on Tuesday remanded a 52- year-old man, Benjamin Nwabueze, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly raping his 15-year-old stepdaughter.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr L. A. Owolabi, did not take Nwabueze’s plea.
He ordered that the suspect be remanded in Kirikiri correctional centre until Oct. 22, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Nwabueze, who is a technician, lives in Igando, Lagos, is charged with rape.
The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the offence was committed in May at 6 Kosoko St., Abaranje, Ikotun, Lagos.
Ademigbuji alleged that Nwabueze, who is the 15-year-old girl’s stepfather, abuses the minor whenever her mother was not at home.
The prosecutor said that the girl’s tutor, where she learns a trade, noticed her behaviour and when she called to find out, she opened up to her.
He said that the case was reported at the police station and that the defendant was subsequently arrested.
The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravene the provisions of Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
