Godwin said that James Enifu who is in the race for chieftaincy title and his supporters, armed with guns and cutlasses, invaded the resident of Oyigocho Asu and shot him.

A Magistrates' Court in Makurdi on Thursday ordered that a 24-year-old civil servant, Ngbede Edoh, be remanded for alleged criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

The Magistrate, Mr Vincent Kor, did not take the plea of Edoh for want in jurisdiction.

Kor adjourned the case until Sept 13, for further mention.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ato Godwin told the court that the case was reported by Chief Bathlomew Ijele, the clan head of Abugbe in Agatu L.G.A of Benue on June 24, at the Divisional police headquarters Agatu.

Godwin said that James Enifu who is in the race for chieftaincy title and his supporters, armed with guns and cutlasses, invaded the resident of Oyigocho Asu and shot him.

He said that Asu (the deceased) was warned to stop supporting Chief Bathlomew Ijele, who is also contesting the Chieftaincy.

Godwin said that Asu was rushed to the Medical Centre Makurdi were he was admitted and later died on July 15.

He said during police investigation, Edoh was arrested for committing the crime while others are at large.

He added that investigations into the matter was still ongoing and prayed the court for an adjournment.

He said the offence contravenes the provisions of sections 97 and 222 of the penal code of Benue State 2004.civil servant for alleged culpable homicide
